Rural Carrier Associate Recognized

Post Office to present Postmaster General Hero Award

The Postal Service will honor Rural Carrier Associate Michaela Akers

PRINCETON, IN – The Postal Service will honor Rural Carrier Associate Michaela Akers at a special ceremony on Wednesday, June 19, 2019, at 8:30 a.m. CST, at the Princeton Post Office, 129 E Broadway, 47670.

Akers earned the Postmaster General Hero Award for her actions aiding a customer who had fallen and injured himself on TWO separate occasions.

While delivering mail on a Princeton rural route, Akers assisted an elderly man at the Midland apartment complex after a fall caused injuries.  Akers called 911 and waited with the customer until responders arrived.  Akers encountered the same customer recently after he fell.  This time he sustained injuries to his face.  Again, she called 911 and waited with him until help arrived.  The customer is going to rehab several times a week for his injuries.

Akers is happy to watch out for customers while delivering the mail.  “I’m just glad I was there to help,” she said.
