Employee drives 37 years without an accident
LEBANON, KENTUCKY — In a ceremony held recently at the Lebanon Post Office, Rural Carrier Rick Ryan was presented with a plaque and pin signifying his induction into the prestigious “Million Mile Club” sponsored by the National Safety Council. Ryan has driven without a single preventable motor-vehicle accident during his postal career.
To be qualified for Million Mile Club status, a professional driver must have driven accident-free for either 30 years or a million miles. Ryan has worked at the Lebanon Post Office since he was hired in 1983.
“I’ve had a lot of close calls,” said Ryan when asked about his accomplishment. “But I drive defensively and follow safety rules,” he added.
Ryan wants his customers to know if they wave to him and he doesn’t wave back, it’s not personal. “Doing my job comes first. I concentrate on my work and being safe.”
The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses, and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
