GILBERTSVILLE, KY – The Postal Service recognized Rural Carrier Jessica Repovich for outstanding customer service after a grateful customer contacted postal headquarters in Washington, D.C. to express gratitude for Repovich’s actions following the December tornado outbreak in the area.

Describing the situation, the customer’s message read, in part, “We had no way to get out and no electricity, water, internet or cell service. But who was the first person to arrive to check on us?  You guessed it, Mrs. Repovich. I cried when I saw her, then she cried and gave me a big hug and said she just had to get out to check on her customers to make sure they were OK. We are so blessed there are such caring people in the world, but our family feels especially blessed to have Mrs. Repovich in our lives. There is no doubt she would have done anything for us or any other customers on our route during that time of death and complete destruction. We feel very grateful and hope you do, too!”

Repovich does not feel she did anything unusual by checking on her customers. “It’s not just a job, it’s customer service, it’s paying attention to our customers in their good times and in their time of need.  I will never forget what I was told when I very first started with the Postal Service, ‘You might be the only person that customer gets to see that day.’ This has stuck with me every day I work. My thoughts are with everyone whose life was changed by the tornadoes but who are rebuilding, better, together, one day at a time.”

According to Postmaster Serita Head, “Jessica was very humbled by the presentation. She is an outstanding employee.”

The Postal Service generally receives no tax dollars for operating expenses, and relies on the sale of postage, products, and services to fund its operations.
