ASHLAND, KY — The Ashland Post Office recently presented Letter Carrier Matthew Allen with a plaque and jacket signifying his induction into the prestigious “Million Mile Club” sponsored by the National Safety Council. Allen has driven 30 years with the Postal Service without a single preventable motor-vehicle accident.

To be qualified for Million Mile Club status a professional driver must have driven accident-free for either 30 years or a million miles.

“Well, you can’t go through 30 years of driving without having a lot of luck on your side and I have been fortunate in that way. You can never tell what the other guy is going to do,” said Allen.

Ashland Postmaster Angela Layne credits Allen’s work ethic and dedication to safety for his achievement. “Matt is modest but he is serious about working safely and being aware of his surroundings,” she said. “He is very deserving of this award and we are proud of him.”
