LEXINGTON, KY – The Postal Service has honored Lexington Carrier Technician Kevin Stover as a Postmaster General Hero for his actions aiding a customer. A carrier technician delivers a group of five different mail routes on the scheduled day off for the regularly assigned carrier.

While delivering a route in a north Lexington neighborhood, Stover noticed the door to the residence of a senior citizen customer was slightly open and heard someone calling out to him. When he looked closer, he saw the customer lying on the floor and rushed to assist her. The customer told him she had fallen in her bedroom, was unable to get up on her own, and couldn’t find her phone. She heard Stover’s vehicle pull up and was able to scoot herself to the front door, just in time. Stover called emergency services and waited with the customer until they arrived.

“I was happy to do what I could for my customer and glad I was there to help her,” said Stover.

Manager Alyson Hubbard, who oversees the Liberty Road Station Post Office, wasn’t surprised to learn of Stover’s actions. “Kevin is very reliable and customers love him. He’s always willing to help, both in and out of the office,” she said.

The U.S. Postal Service Postmaster General Heroes’ Program was created in 2003 to commend USPS employees who go above and beyond the call of duty in a variety of situations, such as assisting lost children, getting help for sick or injured customers, spotting fires, and more. PMG heroes who have been recognized through the program reflect a simple, yet powerful, idea: Because they know the habits of their customers and the rhythms of their communities, Postal Service employees are often the first to notify emergency personnel and render aid when something is wrong.
