The Postal Service in Lafayette is hosting a job fair to fill immediate openings for positions in retail and delivery.

Current positions available in Lafayette include:

City Carrier Assistant (CCA)
Salary: $18.92 per hour

A City Carrier Assistant provides a critical service to communities by ensuring mail delivery during weekdays, weekends, and holidays. CCAs deliver mail and packages on foot or by vehicle along an assigned route in a city area and work indoors and outdoors in all weather: rain, snow, cold and heat. The position requires a valid state driver’s license, safe driving record, and experience with a passenger car or larger. The position is ideal for candidates that enjoy staying active outdoors with occasional customer service interactions.

Postal Support Employee (PSE)
Salary: $18.96 per hour

A Postal Support Employee sorts and distributes mail and packages for postal personnel to deliver, serves customers at the retail counter and helps to maintain the appearance of the retail lobby by setting up and arranging customer displays. The position is intended to be very flexible; an employee can be scheduled any hours and days, including weekends and holidays.

Rural Carrier Associate (RCA)
Salary: $19.06 per hour

A Rural Carrier Associate will have a continuous, part-time job. This on-call position could be ideal if one is retired, self-employed, an at-home parent, an educator, night student, or if employed on an evening shift schedule. An RCA serves families and businesses in rural and suburban areas. This employee is responsible for the delivery and collection of mail, working part-time when regular carriers have scheduled days off or vacation days. An RCA also sells stamps and money orders. An applicant must have a valid state driver’s license and demonstrate and maintain a safe driving record. A personal vehicle may be required. Becoming an RCA is the first step to becoming a full-time, regular rural carrier with full benefits.

Mail Handler Assistant (MHA)
Salary: $17.32 per hour

A Mail Handler Assistant performs a variety of tasks. They load, unload, and move mail and packages from trucks and sorting equipment, operate machinery and perform a variety of other duties related to the movement and processing of mail. The position, which may lead to a career position, is intended for those who enjoy staying active in a team environment, where safety and ergonomics is emphasized. MHAs must be available to work when needed, including weekends and holidays.

The Postal Service generally receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products, and services to fund its operations.
