Kathy Bui Newellton Postmaster

NEWELLTON, LA — Kathy Bui has served communities in Texas and Louisiana since 1999. She started as a Data Conversation Operator. She was also a mail processing clerk, customer service clerk, city carrier, supervisor, officer-in-charge, and is now Newellton, LA, Postmaster.

"I understand ‘Delivering for America,’ she says. "I've worked in customer service and processing. No matter anyone's position, every employee helps get the mail to our customers daily."

In Newellton, Bui has one clerk, two rural carriers, and two rural carrier associates to serve her rural routes. "It's a small town with a population of 1,047 — lots of farming in this area.

"I enjoy working with the public and for the Postal Service. I have learned so much about how the mail is handled and our excellent system.”

She says she wanted to advance to postmaster one day after becoming a supervisor. "Now here I am," she says.

"As a postmaster, I share my knowledge with my employees as much as possible so they can do their job efficiently," she explains. "I help them understand why we are doing things a certain way. It gives them more information and understanding of postal operations.”

In addition to her postmaster duties, Bui is married and has an 18-year-old daughter.

"To me, ‘Delivering for America’ is about serving the American public in the most professional way possible," she adds. "Thousands of employees are involved in this incredible machine, the Postal Service. I'm glad I made it my career."

The Postal Service generally receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products, and services to fund its operations.
