Oversees USPS services in Merryville and Singer
MERRYVILLE, LA – Christina “Marie” Perkins started 2023 on a high note. Sworn in as Merryville Postmaster on December 31, 2022, she now oversees 11 employees. "We have five rural routes, and I manage a Remotely Managed Post Office in Singer," she says of her new assignment.
"I lived in Merryville my entire life except when I moved away to further my education after high school," she says. "I attended Sowela Technical College for two years in computer science."
Perkins began her Postal Service career in Merryville as a Highway Contract Route substitute in 2012, followed by becoming a Postal Support Employee, Post Office Clerk, and Officer In Charge, all in Merryville before being named Postmaster.
After working in retail, as Circulation Manager for the Beauregard Daily News, Iberia Comprehensive Community Health Center, and Merryville Town Clerk, she decided to apply at USPS. "I chose the Postal Service because both my parents were postal employees at the time," she says. "It is a great place to work, and it was a job that would lead to a career.”
"So far, being a clerk has been the most rewarding for me," says Perkins. "It allowed me to learn and grow as a postal employee, and that gave me the courage to reach out and apply for the Postmaster position."
Since working for USPS, the most significant change Perkins says she has witnessed is the improvement in technology and the ability for customers to track the location of their mail.
"I am delivering for America by ensuring that my carriers are well trained and very safety conscience," she says. "My employees also understand the importance of customer service and being a positive reflection of the Postal Service."
Perkins is married to her husband, Eric, and they stay busy with their four dogs. She likes to be outside, hunting and fishing, and has recently started gardening.
"I appreciate the opportunities I have with the Postal Service," she says. "I look forward to the future."
