VIVIAN, LA — Newly appointed Vivian, Louisiana, Postmaster Na Torya Merritt says there have been a lot of changes during her 10-year career with the Postal Service.

"From how the mail comes into the post office to how it is weighed, nothing is the way it was ten years ago," she says of new technology and procedures. "There are also a lot more packages today than letter mail."

Merritt started her career in Cullen as a Postal Support Employee. She says she put in a lot of hard work to become a postmaster, including serving as an acting supervisor, supervisor, and officer-in-charge in several post offices.

Today, she leads a team of 16 employees, including clerks, city carriers, and rural carriers, and oversees four remotely managed post offices in Gilliam, Hosston, Rodessa, and Ida. All five offices combined have approximately 2800 delivery points and 1800 Post Office Boxes.

"I am motivating my team to do the very best we can in the quickest, safest way possible to ensure all of our customers are getting the service they need from the Postal Service," Merritt says.

"I chose the Postal Service as my employer because I like a constant challenge," she says. "Before I came on board, I noticed it was an evolving company, and I just had to be part of it!"
