A First Class Souvenir of the Celebration
What:
The United States Postal Service in North Pembroke, in conjunction with the Pembroke Historical Society, will celebrate the 150th anniversary of the North Pembroke Post Office with a keepsake picture postmark -- also known as a pictorial cancellation in collectors' circles. This will be an all day celebration with commemorative envelopes available and refreshments will be served.
Where:
North Pembroke Post Office
288 Washington St.
North Pembroke, MA 02358
When:
Friday, April 26, 2019
8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Background:
Postmaster Ann Petruzzelli says the picture postmark is free. "We will apply the postmark on any envelope that has proper postage, making it a first class souvenir of the day." "It's a postmark that is more than circles and bars," says Postmaster Petruzzelli. "It is a picture that tells a story." The postmark pictures a herring, signifying the annual Pembroke Herring Run, over the words “Running since 1869” and “150th Anniversary Station” encircling the date.
People may obtain the postmark in person at the Post Office. If you miss the anniversary celebration, but wish to obtain the postmark, you may submit a mail order request. Pictorial postmarks are available only with the dates indicated, and requests must be postmarked no later than 30 days following the requested pictorial postmark date. Customers wishing to obtain a postmark should affix First-Class Mail postage to any envelope or postcard, address the envelope or postcard and tuck in the flap. Place the envelope or postcard in a larger envelope and address it to Postmaster, followed by North Pembroke Post Office 288 Washington St. North Pembroke, MA 02358.
