Fire caused structural damage
BURKITTSVILLE, MD — The Burkittsville Post Office, located at 8 E Main Street, is closed indefinitely due to structural damage caused by a fire on Dec. 29, 2019. There were no postal employees on duty at the time of the fire. Mail deliveries will continue as normal.
All retail operations and PO Box service at the Burkittsville Post Office will be moved to the Jefferson Post Office at 3702 Jefferson Pike, Jefferson, MD, which is approximately 6 miles away.
Hours at Jefferson Post Office Monday through Friday are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday 9 a.m. to noon. The Post Office is closed on Sunday.
The Postal Service is committed to restoring service to the Burkittsville Post Office as quickly as possible.
Customers may purchase stamps and other philatelic products through The Postal Store at usps.com/shop, by calling 800-STAMP24 (800-782-6724), by mail through USA Philatelic or at Post Office locations nationwide.
Most postal products and services are available at www.usps.com. There customers can look up a ZIP Code, track a package, buy stamps, request to hold mail, print postage online, submit a change of address, schedule a package pickup and find the location of other nearby Post Offices.
The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
