87- year old customer saved from potential fraudulent scheme
What:
The United States Postal Service is recognizing Sales and Service Associate Layeela Jones, Westland Post Office, with the Postmaster General Hero Award. Jones helped stop an 87-year old customer from sending a $4000 money order to an unknown person in New Mexico.
When the customer came to the retail window and asked to send a $4000 check overnight to New Mexico, Jones quickly became suspicious, as elderly customers are frequently the target of fraudulent schemes. Jones was able to obtain information from the customer to contact the family and stop any further action.When:

A more critical situation may have been prevented due to Jones’s efforts.
