DETROIT, MI — The holidays and online shopping are in full swing. We Are Ready! in the Postal Service to deliver more than 12 billion pieces of mail including between 850 – 950 million packages between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day. This means our customers will start to see postal employees delivering packages earlier in the morning, later in the evening, and on Sundays.
Evenings become darker earlier presenting a challenge for hidden dangers on sidewalks and porches that may create obstacles for letter carriers.
We ask customers to please turn on your porch light when you are expecting a package so our letter carriers can deliver safely.
“The Postal Service places the safety of its employees and the communities we serve as a top priority,” said District Manager Richard Moreton, Michigan 1 District. “These tips can also help you and your family reduce injuries that can ruin an otherwise good day.”
