On June 16, 2022, legislation to designate the Post Office building located at 202 Trumbull St., Saint Clair, Michigan, as the “Corporal Jeffrey Robert Standfest Post Office” was signed into law by President Biden. This legislation was introduced in the United States House of Representatives by Representative Lisa McClain.

Who:

Lisa McClain, U.S. Representative, 10th Congressional District of MI
Denise Owen, Manager Post Office Operations, Michigan 1 District
Dan Lauwers – Michigan State Senate 25th District
Gary Eisen - Michigan House of Representatives 81st District
Jon Davidson – (Retired) Coach, St. Clair High School
Jason Johnson – Military K9 Handler and Instructor

Background:

Corporal Jeffrey Robert Standfest was 23 years old when an improvised explosive device struck and killed him in the Helmand province of Afghanistan in 2010 while he was on foot patrol pursuing the enemy.

He was assigned to 3rd Combat Engineer Battalion, 3rd Marine Division, based at the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center. He was a canine handler and a combat engineer.

“Cpl. Standfest was an American hero who gave everything to our country. Renaming the St. Clair Post Office after him will help our community honor his bravery and incredible sacrifice. I am proud to have led this legislation in Congress to rename this Post Office so that Cpl. Standfest will always be remembered for his heroism,” said Representative Lisa McClain.

Every time a customer walks through the doors of the Cpl. Standfest Post Office Building, they are celebrating a young man, from our own community, who served this country with the greatest value, giving his own life so that others may live,” said Manager Denise Owen, Post Office Operations.

The Postal Service generally receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
