Roy E. Dickens was born August 29,1940 in Kentucky and became a lifelong resident of the City of Hazel Park.

When Dickens returned home to Hazel Park after serving in the U. S. Army, stationed in Germany, he became the owner and operator of the Clark Gas Station on the corner of John R and Shevlin. Roy was hired by the City of Hazel Park Police Department and selected to join, in the 1970's, the BLEND UNIT, an undercover unit in south Oakland County.  After the BLEND UNIT was disbanded, he returned to being a patrolman. After 30 years of service, Dickens retired from the police department.

Dickens soon began working at the 43rd District Court - Hazel Park Division - as Court Bailiff for Judge Keith Hunt. He continued to work for the next 15 years until his final retirement.

Roy was married for close to 53 years to Marilyn Dickens with two children, Gina and David. He has two grandchildren, Steven and Ashley, and two great-grandchildren, Lydia and Colin. His son David said, “He was truly devoted to the citizens of Hazel Park for his entire lifetime.”
