Comstock Park, MI Post Office Building Renaming Ceremony

Act of Congress designates facility as “Captain Miguel Justin Nava Post Office”

Event:

The Comstock Park, MI Post Office will have its building named in honor of United States Marine Captain Miguel Justin Nava at a ceremony, Friday, July 25, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. The ceremony will be held at the gazebo in the Dwight Lydell Park, directly across the street from the Post Office, 4040 Leland Ave NE, Comstock Park, MI 49321

On January 4, 2024, legislation introduced in the United States Congress to designate the Post Office building 3913 LeLeland Avenue, in Comstock Park, Michigan, as the “Captain Miguel Justin Nava Post Office”, was signed into law by the President.  This legislation was introduced in the United States Congress by Congresswoman Hillary Scholten.

“I am honored to join the family of Captain Miguel Justin Nava – along with so many of his friends and community leaders – to commemorate the beloved student, accomplished athlete and military hero raised in Comstock Park,” said Donald Dombrow, Jr., USPS District Manager, Michigan Two. “Dedicating the plaque which will be placed in the post office lobby, we have an obligation in the Postal Service to preserve his memory for the community, his family, and those that were personally touched by Captain Nava’s sacrifice.”

Background:

Captain Miguel Justin Nava USMC, age 28 of Traverse City, MI passed away on February 7, 2024 while flying his CH-53E Super Stallion.
Miguel was born on September 30, 1995 to his parents, Javier and Lisa Nava. He adored his wife, Ryann Isabelle Andres, whom he married on July 29, 2020.

Miguel grew up in Comstock Park, MI and graduated from Comstock Park High School in 2013 where he was a beloved student, leader, and accomplished athlete. He was voted “most likely to succeed” by his peers.

Following high school, Miguel attended the United States Naval Academy. Upon graduation in 2017, Miguel was commissioned into the Marine Corps to become a Marine Aviator. Miguel received his wings on July 24, 2020. He was selected to fly the CH-53E helicopter at Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Miramar in San Diego, CA with HMH-361. Miguel was promoted to the rank of Captain on November 1, 2021. His decorations include the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and Sea Service Deployment Ribbon.

Miguel loved the water and flying. He spent most summers boating on Long Lake in Traverse City, MI. His passion for flying started at a young age and led him into his career. Few things made him happier than being on the water or flying in the sky.

Miguel is survived by the love of hid life, Ryann, his beloved son Luca, along with his parents, Javier and Lisa, and brother Nikolas.

Miguel was an exceptional man. He was a Marine Corps Officer whom many admired. He exemplified all that is good and right in the world. He was a loving husband, father, son, brother, classmate, and friend.  He will be remembered by many and his influence will be recognized beyond his time here.
