Proposed Relocation of Minneapolis, MN Minnehaha Station Post Office

What:

The U.S. Postal Service sent a postcard to the residents of the Minneapolis MN Minnehaha Post Office, previously located at 3033 27th Ave S., Minneapolis, MN 55406-1914, requesting customer feedback.

Who:

USPS Real Estate Specialist Greg Shelton

Background:

Due to a fire that caused unrepairable damage to the Minnehaha Post Office, the Postal Service is considering options to relocate retail services to a yet-to-be-determined location within the 55406 ZIP Code.

Typically, the Postal Service will host an in-person community meeting to discuss future plans with the customers who are impacted by such relocation efforts. However, with the COVID-19 pandemic, the Postal Service is seeking information by mail.

Options of what USPS needs for a new site are as follows:

  • 13,130 square feet building with 91+ parking spaces,
  • Any leads on land to purchase that is 84,000 square feet, or
  • Retail area with 2,500 square feet with an area to be transformed into a Carrier building that is 10,110 square feet.

This relocation project will consist of procuring a suitable location as close as reasonably possible to the existing location. It is important for the Postal Service to know what qualities are important to the community when considering a different location. Whether it is important that the facility is near public transportation or if you know of a location that meets the above square footage and parking criteria nearby, we want your feedback!

In the meantime, retail services have temporarily been housed at the newly opened joint facility, located at 10 W Lake Street, until all necessary preparations are completed at the new location.

We invite you to send your comments on the proposal to the following address within the next 30 days to:

United States Postal Service
Attn: Minnehaha MN Relocation
PO BOX 27497
Greensboro, NC 27498-1103.

The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
