Postal officials will offer a look at the newly installed Package Sorter Machine
What:
Media Open House: Holiday Operations/New Package Sorter Machine
The United States Postal Service will host a behind-the-scenes tour of holiday operations at the St. Paul Processing & Distribution Center and the Minneapolis/St. Paul Network Distribution Center featuring an up-close look at the new Package Sorter Machines. The Postal Service is preparing for the holidays and is ready to meet the growing customer demand for package delivery. One of 112 new package sorters distributed nationwide was installed in the St. Paul P&DC and the Minneapolis/St. Paul NDC located in St. Paul, MN to provide more reliable service that customers expect through the holiday and beyond. Last year’s holiday season was like no other for both USPS and its customers. Package delivery grew nearly 48 percent driven by the surge in online shopping and ecommerce due to the COVID pandemic. Last year, despite the challenges of the pandemic, the Postal Service delivered a record 1.1 billion packages. St. Paul, MN like many facilities across the nation, relied on manual sortation of packages. The new package sorters will process thousands of packages an hour – up to 12 times faster than manual sortation. This is a unique opportunity to see how that mail is processed. It will feature a tour led by postal officials along with holiday handout information and tips about the best ways to ship cards, letters, and packages during the holidays.
