ZUMBROTA, MN — Zumbrota Rural Carrier Jared Sprenger helped save the life of a man suffering a heart attack.
While delivering mail on his route, Zumbrota Rural Carrier Jared Sprenger saw a man at a golf course lying on the ground waving his arms for help. Jared stopped his vehicle and went to aid the fallen man. The man told Jared that he needed 911. Jared noticed that he was trying to dial 911 on his phone by hitting the # sign. Jared completed the emergency call, elevated his legs, and talked to him until the police arrived. The police began CPR until the medics arrived. The medics had to shock the fallen man twice to get his heart beating again. Jared’s humanitarian actions helped save his life. The gentleman had suffered a heart attack while conducting maintenance on the golf course grounds. There were golfers out on the course, but no one noticed the fallen man. Jared did, which exemplifies the invaluable service and community presence of USPS letter carriers.
Jared Sprenger was presented the Postmaster General Hero Award on the morning of March 23rd. USPS Minnesota – North Dakota District Manager Anthony Williams presented the award, and the Zumbrota Post Office hosted the ceremony celebration.
The PMG Hero Award program recognizes men and women who have gone above and beyond the call of duty in a variety of situations, such as assisting lost children, getting help for sick or injured customers, spotting fires, and more.
After the incident, the recovered golf course maintenance worker stopped by the Zumbrota Post Office with his granddaughter to personally thank Jared. His granddaughter gave Jared a handmade thank you card and a little package of goodies for him as well.
The Postal Service generally receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
