Vergas, MN — The Postal Service held a rededication ceremony at the Vergas Post Office on August 11, 2023, in honor of former Rural Carrier Jon Glawe.

Jon, a former U.S. Army veteran, started his professional journey at the U.S. Post Office in Minneapolis. Later, he returned to Vergas, shouldering the responsibility of the family dairy farm with his brother until the late 1990s. After his father's passing, Jon undertook the role of delivering mail for Vergas and its neighboring areas through the rural mail route. He diligently carried out this duty for 36 years, culminating in his well-earned retirement in 2011.

Jon Glawe exemplified the life of a public servant, having served in the U.S. Army and dedicating 36 years of his life to being a mail carrier in service to his neighbors. His impact on the Vergas community was exceptional, and renaming the Post Office in his honor will ensure the enduring remembrance of his life and service.

Speakers included Congresswoman Michelle Fischbach, USPS Minnesota - North Dakota District Manager Angela Bye, and family member Darla Glawe.

On November 11, 2022, Congresswoman Michelle Fischbach introduced House Resolution 5952. Unanimous support from a state’s congressional delegation is needed movement of naming bills to the floor of the House and Senate and is then signed by the President of the United States to become law.

The Postal Service worked with the office of Congresswoman Michelle Fischbach to host the event.
