In 2021, H.R. 3175, a bill to designate the facility of the U.S. Postal Service located at 135 Main Street in Biloxi, MS as the “Robert S. McKeithen” Post Office Building was introduced. The bill was signed by the President on December 19, 2022 and became P.L. 117-232.

In August 1995, the Biloxi Police Department hired Robert McKeithen as a 3rd Class Patrol Officer. Two years later, he was promoted to 2nd Class Patrol Officer, and then in 1998, to the rank of 1st Class Patrol Officer.

McKeithen, who received the Medal of Valor for saving four special needs children in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, also was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, where he earned the Air Force Commendation Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, and the Air Force Achievement Medal.

In May 2019, McKeithen was killed in the line of duty. He was months shy of his retirement after 24 years of service in the Biloxi community.

The dedication ceremony is free and is open to the public. The event will take place at Biloxi City Hall as the Biloxi Post Office is under construction.
