Manages USPS Services for the Bozeman and Babcock Communities
Paul Martinez Contreras is the new postmaster at the Bozeman, Montana Post Office and is excited to serve the Bozeman and Babcock communities.
Born and raised in Long Island, New York, Martinez Contreras joined the Postal Service as a carrier in Brentwood, NY in 2016. The majority of his career was spent at multiple Post Office locations in New York where he performed jobs such as letter carrier, officer in charge, retail clerk, supervisor, and postmaster. Most recently he was postmaster in Watford City, North Dakota.
Three years ago the Postal Service implemented the “Delivering for America” (DFA) 10-year plan to achieve financial sustainability and service excellence. Part of the plan includes providing a better employee environment, hiring more staff, and returning world class service to its customers. Martinez Contreras says many changes have occurred in the last three years and he’s doing his part to contribute to the DFA plan.
“I am working hard to make the necessary changes at the Bozeman Post Office that allows us to develop better relationships in our community and provide our customers with the world class service that they deserve.”
Between the Bozeman and Babcock Post Office locations, Martinez Contreras oversees 72 employees, 53 delivery routes — more than 43,000 total stops which includes more than 21,000 rural deliveries — more than 3,100 Post Office Box (PO Box) deliveries, and also oversees the Contract Postal Unit (CPU) at Montana State University.
Before joining the Postal Service Martinez Contreras was an emergency medical technician (EMT) and an EMT instructor. He made the decision to join USPS because he wanted to serve the community in a different way and wanted a job with retirement security.
Postmaster Martinez Contreras still has family in New York, including his mom, and aunts and uncles. He also has many family members in other states, but he says he’s closest to his family in New York.
In his spare time he likes to go fishing, hiking, camping, swimming, boating, and skiing.
