Mail Damaged During Vehicle Fire in Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, NC – A tractor trailer carrying mail caught fire today and destroyed some of the mail on board. There were no injuries and due to the quick actions by first responders, some mail was salvaged. The Postal Service will make every effort to salvage additional items and deliver as much of the mail as possible.

Customers who may have been impacted will be notified via letter. The tractor trailer was carrying mail to the following Post Offices:

  • Jacksonville Main (719 New Bridge St.)
  • Jacksonville Brynn Marr (279 Huff Drive)
  • Emerald Isle (142 Eastview Drive)
  • Hubert (382 Hubert Blvd.)
  • Swansboro (664 W Corbett Ave.)

Customers expecting incoming mail and believe their mail may have been affected by this incident, or who have questions regarding the status of their mail, should contact our Consumer Affairs office at 704-393-4443.

The Postal Service recommends that customers sign up for Informed Delivery, which is a free feature that allows residential customers to receive emails with images of their letter-sized mail that is expected to arrive soon. The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
