Postal Service Temporarily Suspends Service in Dare County

Additional impacts to operations expected in areas in the path of the storm

GREENSBORO, NC — Due to the mandatory evacuation orders from Hurricane Dorian, the Postal Service has announced the temporary suspension of mail delivery and retail operations in Dare County, NC.

Postal Service employees in impacted areas are working to secure the mail, postal facilities and equipment in advance of the arrival of Hurricane Dorian.

In addition the following Post Offices will close until further notice:

  • Kill Devil Hills NC 27948 – 301 S Croatan Hwy
  • Kitty Hawk NC 27949 – 3841 N Croatan Hwy
  • Manteo NC 27954 – 2128 US Hwy 64 and 264
  • Nags Head NC 27959 – 100 Deering St

The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
