Star Post Office Unveils Annual Holiday Postmark

Star Post Office special holiday pictorial postmark

STAR, NC — The holidays are in full swing at the Star Post Office where a special holiday pictorial postmark has been created for the 34th consecutive year.

This year’s postmark was designed by Chloe VunCannon, a college student at Appalachian State University. Her design was selected as part of an annual contest each September where artists submit holiday postmark designs.

Star Postmaster Angela Johnson said, “Cancellation requests increase each year. Last year, we hand cancelled approximately 24,000 cards and letters.”

Customers can get the special Star Holiday Cancellation either by coming to the Star Post Office or mailing their request (see instructions below).

“With more people staying inside due to the pandemic this year, we expect an increase in the mail-in requests,” Johnson said. “We are excited to continue this holiday tradition.”

Customers can bring their mail to the Star Post Office for cancellation from 8:30 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday and 8:30 a.m. to noon on Saturdays. There is also a special drop box after hours as long as the correct postage is applied.

The cancellation may also be obtained via mail by affixing postage to an envelope or postcard, addressing the envelope or postcard for mailing, and placing the envelope or postcard in a larger cover envelope.

Address mail order cancellation requests to:  STAR HOLIDAY CANCELLATION, PO Box 9998, Star, NC  27356-9998.  After applying the pictorial cancellation, the Star Postmaster will return the item(s) to the requestor or addressee.

The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
