NEWTON, NC — Travelling later this year, or need to renew a passport before it expires? The Newton Post Office will host a passport fair on May 21 to make obtaining a new passport or renewing your old one an easy and convenient experience.

Walk-in customers are welcome at this passport fair. Customers can also schedule at appointment online for the passport fair or for any USPS passport office at https://www.usps.com/scheduler. Photo services will be available at the passport fair for an additional $15 per customer.

The Postal Service accepts passports and mails them to the U.S. Department of State for processing. First-time applicants must submit their application in person. Passport renewals often do not require an in-person appointment. Customers can mail their application directly to the State Department.

Passport application requirements:

  • Bring in proper proof of U.S. citizenship. This must be either a certified birth certificate issued by the city, country or state; a previous U.S. passport; a certificate of citizenship; or a naturalization certificate. (Please note: A hospital-issued birth certificate alone is not acceptable).
  • Bring in proof of identity. This must be either a previous U.S. passport, a naturalization certificate; a certificate of citizenship; or a current valid driver’s license, a government ID or military photo ID.
  • To save time in this process, customers can download a passport application at the Department of State website: www.travel.state.gov.
  • All applicants must appear in person (including minors).  Applicants under age 16 must appear with both parents. If one parent is not available, a notarized authorization from the absent parent is required.
