Potential Relocation and Final Decision for Mandan ND, Post Office

What:

In 2021, the U.S. Postal Service® is proposing to relocate the Mandan ND, Post Office.

Background:

United States Postal Service's final decision with respect to the Postal Service's proposal to relocate retail services from the above-referenced Post Office to 3511 Memorial Hwy SE (32nd Ave SE & Memorial Hwy SE). If this location is not adequate or an agreement cannot be reached with its owner, the Postal Service will consider other sites within the area.

The Postal Service sent an initial letter on April 14, 2021, and due to COVID-19 in lieu of a public meeting, a postcard was sent on June 1, 2021, asking for community input. For the reasons set forth below, the Postal Service has decided to proceed with the relocation.

The Postal Service is considering relocation because its current location is not large enough to support postal operations; therefore, Postal Service must find a larger facility. The Postal Service anticipates providing the same services at the new location as are currently provided to our customers at the existing location. Additionally, the Postal Service plans to continue services at the existing Post Office until the replacement facility is open and operating as a Post Office.

While the Postal Service is sensitive to the impact of this decision on its customers and the Mandan community, the Postal Service properly considered community input and this decision is consistent with Postal Service objectives. Postal Service operations are not supported by tax dollars. To be self-sustaining, the Postal Service must make decisions that ensure it provides adequate and affordable postal services in a manner that is as efficient and economical as possible.
