LAFAYETTE, NJ – At the close of business, Friday, August 16, postal operations at the current Lafayette Post Office, 96 State Route 15, will be suspended.
The 144 Lafayette Post Office Box customers can begin picking-up their mail at the nearby Augusta Post Office, 33 U.S. Highway 206, on Saturday, August 17. The lobby hours for picking-up Post Office Box mail at the Augusta Post Office are Monday – Friday 7:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Saturday 7:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
There will be no effect on rural mail delivery service to street addresses. Lafayette customers receiving a notice of attempted delivery of a package or mail piece requiring a signature at their street address, can call the phone number on the notice for re-delivery or pick-up their mail at the Augusta Post Office.
Lafayette residents have alternatives for conducting postal transactions in nearby Augusta and Branchville. Retail business hours at the Augusta Post Office are Monday – Friday 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Saturday retail hours are 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. Retail business hours at the Branchville Post Office are 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. Saturday retail hours are 8:30 a.m. – 1 p.m.
The temporary suspension at the current Lafayette location is the result of concerns for the aging condition of the 1,118 sq. ft. leased facility. While no timetable has been set, postal officials are exploring all options for a permanent solution for the continuation of service in Lafayette. A community meeting will be held at a later date to discuss the options.
