When:

Where:
The Strong Museum, 1 Manhattan Square Dr., Rochester NY 14607
Background:
On Saturday, August 1, USPS will be at The Strong Museum to offer a pictorial postmark and the newly released Sesame Street Forever Stamps (photos above). A temporary Post Office will be set up at the site. No admission required for programming.
The first episode of Sesame Street aired on Nov. 10, 1969. From the beginning, Sesame Street was like no other children’s program. Human characters, often children themselves, interacted with the Muppets of Sesame Street.
Arranged in horizontal rows, the stamps showcase 16 of the Muppets characters that appear on Sesame Street — Big Bird, Ernie, Bert, Cookie Monster, Rosita, The Count, Oscar the Grouch, Abby Cadabby, Herry Monster, Julia, Guy Smiley, Snuffleupagus, Elmo, Telly, Grover, and Zoe. Images of nine of the characters appear on the right side of the pane underneath the iconic Sesame Street sign. The back of the pane displays the Sesame Street 50th anniversary artwork.
The Sesame Street Forever Stamp was released on June 22, 2019 in celebration of the program’s 50-year anniversary. The Strong Museum of Play houses a replica of the famous neighborhood featuring many of the lovable characters featured on the stamp.
Pictorial postmarks are collectors’ items, making excellent souvenirs of special dates and events. Only items bearing uncanceled postage stamps at the applicable First-Class Mail rate are eligible for postmarking.
Collectors and out of town requests can be mailed in, with a self-addressed stamped return envelope, for 30 days to Sesame Street Station, Rochester Post Office, 1335 Jefferson Rd., Rochester, NY 14240-9998.
The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses, and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
