WEST NYACK, NY — On Monday, October 14, the Postal Service’s Palisades Postal Store at 3302 Palisades Center Drive in West Nyack is the only Post Office in the area that is open for business from 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. with passport application acceptance hours from 11:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. on the Columbus Day federal holiday.
Columbus and his crew may not have needed passports in 1492, but travel requirements have certainly changed in the 527 years since the intrepid explorers sailed the ocean blue. If international travel is in your plans for the holiday season and you need a passport, the Palisades Postal Store can accept passport applications on behalf of the United States Department of State on Columbus Day. Passport photos can also be taken.
Detailed guidelines for preparing passport applications, a list of the necessary supporting documents, and current processing times are posted online at: www.travel.state.gov.
As with other federal holidays, most Post Offices will be closed and only Priority Mail Express will be delivered. Normal mail delivery, collections, and retail services will resume on Tuesday, October 15.
The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
