Season of giving kicks off at a Post Office near you
New York, NY —Need a little help this holiday? Come to the Post Office and write a letter to Santa as we kick off the 107-year-old tradition of USPS Operation Santa.
Your holiday wish might be granted.
On Wednesday Nov. 20, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the Postal Service is making it easy to participate in Operation Santa by kicking it off in YOUR neighborhood.
Stop by any of these participating locations to write a letter and learn more about the program:
The mission of USPS Operation Santa is to provide a channel where people can give back and help children and families — enabling them to have a magical holiday when they otherwise might not — one letter to Santa at a time
The Postal Service began receiving letters to Santa Claus more than 100 years ago; however, it was in 1912 when Postmaster General Frank Hitchcock authorized local postmasters to allow postal employees and citizens to respond to the letters — this became known as Operation Santa.

Got your holiday covered? Adopt a letter.
As wonderful as receiving gifts can feel, it is also important to remember that the holidays are a time of gratitude and giving.
The Postal Service’s Operation Santa makes it possible for individuals and organizations to adopt letters and send responses and thoughtful gifts in Santa’s place. With an online platform, community members can adopt a letter from a youngster or family who may have financial constraints this holiday season.
Together we can deliver cheer so everyone can believe in the spirit of Santa.
Additional news and information, including all domestic, international and military mailing and shipping deadlines, can be found at the Postal Service Holiday Newsroom.
The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses, and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
