Saturday marks last day of mail pickup before boxholders move to new home
Davenport Center – The postcard that customers wanted finally arrived in Davenport Center. Their Post Office will reopen on Monday, postal officials said.
The new Davenport Center Post Office, located at 11892 State Highway 23, will open its doors for its first stamp sale on February 24 beginning at 10 am. Post office boxholders will find their mail in new post office boxes and will receive new keys to serve the boxes.
Postal officials remind local customers to bring identification as required for the registration process for the post office boxes. Post office box numbers and addresses, including the Davenport Center ZIP Code of 13751, will not change.
A public ribbon cutting ceremony will take place at 10 am with postal officials greeting local customers.
Window hours at the Davenport Center Post Office are from 10 am to 2 pm Mondays through Saturdays.
Officials add that the Post Office Box section is open 24 hours every day. Pickup of oversized or signature-required mail is available during window hours.
The Davenport Center Post Office will serve 54 boxholders, with room for more, as well as 38 highway contract route customers who will be directed to that Post Office for oversized or signature-required mail that cannot be delivered directly.
Since the office shuttered, Davenport Center customers have been served by the Davenport Post Office. The last day for those customers to pick up mail at Davenport is Saturday, February 22. All mail will then move to Davenport Center for the reopening of service on Monday, February 24.
