Opening early for essential workers, extra needs customers
PORT EWEN, NY – Beginning Monday, April 27 and until further notice, Port Ewen Postmaster Tammy Sheehan and her employees are expanding service to include special Monday to Friday retail hours from 7 a.m. – 8 a.m. at the Port Ewen Post Office to serve essential workers and extra needs customers.
“To best serve our community during this pandemic, the Port Ewen postal team wants to make it easier for essential workers and customers who are most at risk by dedicating the special 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. weekday timeslot for their exclusive use,” says Postmaster Sheehan. “We would ask the community to respect this special accommodation and give these neighbors a chance to zip in and zip out for the short term,” adds the Port Ewen Postmaster.
In addition to the special 7a.m. – 8 a.m. special hours, the Port Ewen Post Office at 215 Bowne Street is open 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday – Friday and 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. on Saturday.
The Postmaster is reminding the community that the CDC, World Health Organization, as well as the Surgeon General have indicated that there is currently no evidence that COVID-19 is being spread through the mail.
To minimize health risks for customers and employees, signage is posted to alert everyone to the need for masks and social distancing. Tape is being used as a visual key to mark the required six foot separation and a social distancing barrier is installed at the counter.
The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
