Customers Must East Nassau Office Starting Thursday
Instead of accepting a change of address, the Brainard Post Office is filing one.
Starting Thursday — September 17, 2020 — the East Nassau Post Office will serve highway contract route customers and 14 post office boxholders from the Rennselaer County hamlet as the Brainard Post Office undergoes an emergency suspension due to safety and sanitation concerns.
Affected residents will continue to use their current Brainard address, including the 12024 ZIP Code. On their first visit to East Nassau, Brainard post office box holders will be issued a new key to a new post office box. Customers are urged to bring identification for their first visit.
There will be no change of service for Highway Contract Route (HCR) customers receiving street delivery from the Brainard Post Office with the exception of customers who may need to claim an oversized or signature-required item. Mailbox notices left for customers will now direct Brainard HCR customers to the East Nassau Post Office.
Postal officials note that the familiar blue collection will remain in service outside the Brainard Post Office, located at 2045 US Route 20.
Weekday business hours at the East Nassau Post Office, located at 6466 State Route 66, are 7:30 am to 11:30 am. Lobby hours for access to post office boxes on weekdays are 7 am to 5 pm.
Saturday hours are 7:15 am to noon. Lobby hours on Saturdays are 7 am to 11:15 pm.
Use of masks and social distancing are strictly enforced.
There is no timetable for a restoration of operations in Brainard, according to postal officials.
Postal customers will also find stamps available, at no added charge, at nearby locations such as CVS, Hannafords or Price Chopper.
