Seasonal Hiring Event on Veterans Day

Albany NY — With about 1 billion packages expected this holiday season, the Postal Service is looking for 100 seasonal hands-on-deck as it extends its recruitment efforts into the traditional mail-free Veterans Day Holiday on Wednesday.

Although locations across the nation will close on November 11 in honor of Veterans Day, on November 11, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. residents in the Capital Region who are interested in indoor postal work can learn more at an in-person hiring event at the Albany Post Office and General Mail Facility, 30 Karner Road  in Colonie, off Central Avenue.

On Wednesday, postal hiring experts will be on hand from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. to guide applicants through the hiring process with 100 seasonal positions now available, including:

  • POSTAL SUPPORT EMPLOYEES, who earn $18.49 per hour, will perform a variety of clerical duties in mail processing such as handle heavy sacks or sort and distribute mail. There are 30 posts now open.
  • MAIL HANDLER ASSISTANTS, who earn $16.55 per hour, will load, unload and move mail and performs other duties related to mail processing. There are 70 positions available.

Postal officials note that the work period begins in mid-November until January 1, 2021 with work assignments concentrated on inside duties during evenings, overnights, holidays and weekends.

During this event, college students can discuss flexible start dates that work around exam and semester schedules.
