Background:

As part of the Delivering for America plan, USPS is modernizing its operations to accommodate growing customer demand for package delivery, which has grown significantly over the past several holiday seasons.

Preparation for the 2022 holiday season is already underway with the installation of 137 new package sorting machines nationwide that will help expand our processing capacity to 60 million packages a day.

These investments will ensure we are well-positioned to handle peak volumes and provide customers with the predictable, reliable service they expect and deserve this holiday and beyond.

Deployment of these package sorter machines are part of our 10-year plan that includes a $40 billion investment in people, equipment, and technology.
