Background:

Dessiree Melo becomes the 25th U.S. Postmaster of Long Island City – and the first Latina to be appointed to that post. Postmaster Melo is now responsible for administering retail and delivery operations for around 200,000 residents of Long Island City and Astoria. She is supported by 329 employees who provide retail services through 8 locations, and who deliver to more than 126,878 delivery points.
