Post Offices Closed in Observance of Veterans Day

Hiring continues across the state

MELVILLE, NY — In observance of Veterans Day, Postal Service facilities will be closed for retail transactions on Monday, November 11, 2024. There will be no residential or business deliveries.

Although there will be no regular mail service, Priority Mail Express is delivered 365 days a year and will be delivered on November 11. Normal delivery and collection schedules will resume on Tuesday, November 12, 2024.

The Postal Service is one of the largest employers of veterans in the country, with nearly 100,000 veterans and military members on staff nationally and over 300 veterans in the ranks right here on Long Island.

While retail Post Office are closed for the day, the online store is open 24/7 at usps.com. Customers can honor veterans daily when they mail a letter with one of the Postal Service’s many service-themed stamps such as, The Purple Heart stamp, Military Dogs, the USS Missouri stamp and arguable the most impactful, the 2019 PTSD semi-postal stamp, whose revenue is shared for research to help treat soldiers, veterans, first responders, health care providers and other individuals dealing with this condition.

Hiring continues across the state and applicants can begin the process at usps.com/hiring. The Postal Service treats military service as prior employment and offers veterans preference in hiring.

The Postal Service generally receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
