Background:

Jamaica, NY swore in its first Postmaster in 1797 and continues that proud tradition with its latest inductee, Postmaster Kahlil Wilson. He is the 39th postmaster in this position.

Wilson will take the Oath of Office at the Robert Ross Johnson Family Life Center on May 9, 2025.

His oversight of Jamaica includes Jamaica Main Post Office, 18 postal stations and five retail units throughout the area. This dense area serves 250,000 residents with 21,000 delivery points, 388 delivery routes and encompasses a total of 23 ZIP Codes.

Wilson began his permanent postal career as a letter carrier for Ozone Park carrier station in 2002 after starting in Manhattan in 2000 as a casual employee.

In 2006, Wilson ventured into management as an associate supervisor for the South Ozone Park carrier station.

His journey into the role of Postmaster began in 2020 when he trained in the role of acting Postmaster of the Rockaways before being appointed as the Postmaster of Long Island City in 2022.

Since then, his duties have covered Flushing and Jamaica primarily.

Now, he is officially appointed as the postmaster of Jamaica.

“I am proud to say that I have been an employee of the Postal Service for over 25 years,” said Wilson. “I began my career as a letter carrier and moved into management through the Postal Service’s Associate Supervisor Program,” he added.

“All my positions have given me different experiences that have heightened my development as a leader and expanded my cross-functional knowledge,” said Wilson.
