New Postmaster Announced in Columbus OH

Eric Gilbert, Dynamic Postal Leader Takes the Helm

COLUMBUS, OH — Eric Gilbert has been appointed the Executive Postmaster for the City of Columbus, Ohio, effective Saturday, April 23rd.

As the Columbus Postmaster, Gilbert will be responsible for overseeing 1,000 postal employees working at 17 stations and branches serving an estimated population of 905,000 people. The Columbus Post Office provides service to more than 400,000 delivery points through 594 city and rural delivery routes.

“It’s a great honor to serve as the new Columbus Postmaster,” Gilbert said.

Gilbert began his postal career 27 years ago as a mail processing clerk in San Diego, California. He has held numerous leadership positions of increasing responsibility including Manager, Customer Services and Manager, Customer Service Operations in the city of San Diego and as Postmaster of La Jolla, California.

A veteran of the United States Marine Corps, Gilbert holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and Management from the University of Phoenix. He is a graduate of USPS Advanced Leadership and Managerial Leadership Programs, Processing Distribution Management and the Management Essentials for Field Leadership.

Gilbert has been the acting Columbus Postmaster for the past few months and has already made positive changes, such as hiring 20 new letter carriers over the last six weeks and focusing on service performance metrics around Priority and First-Class mail.

“Although our customers may have experienced challenges in the past, I am committed to providing improved service to the community through the implementation of the Postal Service’s Delivering for America 10-year plan here in Columbus,” Gilbert added.

The Postal Service generally receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products, and services to fund its operations.
