“As a very green supervisor within Medford, I set a goal for myself to one day become the Postmaster of the Medford installation. I am very proud to have achieved that goal.”

Dayne Barden is the new postmaster at the Medford, Oregon Post Office. He began his postal career a decade ago as a letter carrier in Medford. He was quickly promoted from letter carrier to supervisory and management positions in Medford, Central Point, and White City, Oregon. Most recently he has served as the postmaster at the Eagle Point and Ashland Post Office locations.

Barden has seen many changes in the Postal Service just within the last decade, “    I have observed drastic changes in technology and technological advancements. I have also seen large changes in the engagement of senior leadership which has improved the morale of leaders in my opinion.”

One of the most important transformations is the “Delivering for America” (DFA) 10-year plan to achieve financial sustainability and service excellence.

“The largest change that I have seen is the implementation of the delivering for America plan, to which, I believe the changes are well warranted and beneficial to the service. I am excited to see the success of the wide scale change.”

He says he will do his part to help ensure the success of the DFA plan through implementation of the policy and procedure changes as they are introduced, “I have taken ownership of all Delivering for America goals within my installation and am doing my best to achieve them.”

Postmaster Barden manages nearly 171 employees, nearly 100 delivery routes with more than 63,000 address points, three retail locations including one contract postal unit (CPU), and more than 4,600 PO Boxes.

Barden was born and raised in southern Oregon. After graduating high school he joined the United States Marine Corps where he worked as an embarkation specialist which afforded him the opportunity to travel abroad. The last year of his USMC career found him in southern California where he supervised deployments and redeployment from Afghanistan. He also earned his Bachelor of Science degree from University of Phoenix and industrial welding certificate from Rogue Community College.

Working for the Postal Service is a family affair, his brother is also a postmaster at the Eagle Point office. Barden is married with two children and is an active member of the local HAM radio community. He is also working toward earning his qualifications to help Jackson County’s emergency response team.

When he’s not at work he can be found outdoors. A self-proclaimed outdoorsman he enjoys fishing, hiking, and archery. Other hobbies include constructing anything mechanical or technical.

Barden is looking forward to his future with the Postal Service but so far his most rewarding experience is guiding others and creating an atmosphere of excellence in the Medford office.

“I have had the pleasure of experiencing great leadership in this position and have been afforded the opportunity to hire, train and mentor the future leaders of the service. Under my leadership, Medford has excelled this past year in almost all categories and that is extremely rewarding.
