Postal Service Announces Extended Holiday Hours

Some Post Offices To Open Sundays Before Christmas, Offer Extended Package Pick Up Hours

PHILADELPHIA Throughout the Delaware Valley select Post Offices will open every Sunday from now until Christmas to make it more convenient for customers to complete their holiday mailings.

Customers can complete shipping needs, pick up missed packages, and purchase regular postal products and services such as stamps and money orders.

Post Offices not listed will retain their normal retail hours.

These offices will be open on Sundays, Dec. 12 and 19, from 10 am to 1 pm:

Expanded retail hours are part of the Postal Service’s preparations for the anticipated higher delivery demands of the 2021 holiday peak season. Since April, the Postal Service has installed 112 new package sorting machines, reflecting the Delivering for America plan’s $40 billion of planned investment over ten years. The new machinery gives the Postal Service the capacity to process an additional 4.5 million packages each day.

The Delivering for America plan also includes the hiring 40,000 seasonal employees for the 2021 holiday season. In addition, USPS hiring efforts included the conversion of 63,000 pre-career employees into career position and the hiring of more than 60,000 pre-career employees. Customers are reminded of this year’s postal shipping deadlines:

  • Dec. 15 Retail Ground Service
  • Dec. 17 for First-Class Mail
  • Dec. 18 for Priority Mail
  • Dec. 23 for Priority Mail Express
