Postal Service Seeks Help Keeping Paths Clear

Carrier with 'Thank You' sign

PITTSBURGH, PA — The Postal Service is asking customers to clear snow and ice from sidewalks, stairs, porches, and the approach to mailboxes whether on a house or at the curb.

Any amount of snow can cause a dangerous situation for mail carriers and others. Keeping a clear path to and around mailboxes will help mail carriers continue consistent delivery as well as keep them safe from potential slipping and/or injuries.

The Postal Service offers the following snow removal tips:

  • Clear walkways, steps and porches of snow and ice, allowing traction to avoid slips or falls.
  • Eliminate hanging snow and ice from overhangs to reduce the risk of falling debris.
  • Remove snow from around curbside mailboxes allowing carriers to approach the box, deliver mail, and to drive away without the need for backing or departing the vehicle.

“The Postal Service appreciates any effort made by our customers to help keep our carriers safe,” said Strategic Communications Specialist Mark Lawrence.
