PITTSBURGH — The U.S. Postal Service recently welcomed employees to an event celebrating the opening of the Pittsburgh Sorting and Delivery Center (SDC). The special event offered employees a first look at the Postal Service’s latest investments to improve the employee experience and provide the community and surrounding regions with faster, more reliable service under the transformational Delivering for America plan.

The modernized Pittsburgh SDC is a culmination of the cultural change permeating throughout the Postal Service, focused on innovation, collaboration, problem-solving and competition. USPS facility investments across the state continue to make workplaces safer, more engaging spaces to work.

Investments to transform and modernize local facilities like the Pittsburgh SDC are a core tenet of the Delivering for America plan. As the Postal Service continues its path toward financial sustainability and high operating performance, these investments not only enhance operational precision and delivery efficiency but also prioritize a better working environment for its employees, ensuring a safer and healthier workplace.

At every level and across every operation, USPS is transforming into a more efficient, high-performing logistics and delivery enterprise supported by a dedicated workforce of nearly 640,000 men and women nationwide. Throughout its aggressive facility investments aimed at making service more reliable and affordable across the state, the Postal Service has emphasized the safety and wellbeing of its more than 29,000 employees in the state.

As the Postal Service works toward its vision to become the preferred delivery provider in the country, USPS has committed more than $17 billion aimed at revitalizing its delivery networks and national infrastructure. To date, more than $256 million in strategic local investments has been allocated to enhance operations in Pennsylvania. This includes more than $2 million to construct 16 new facilities, more than $143 million to renovate 324 existing structures, and more than $15 million to purchase 14 state-of-the-art package sorting machines across the state.

Additionally, to better serve the more than 5.9 million addresses across the state and fulfill its universal service obligation, the Postal Service has also invested nearly $84 million to strengthen its delivery fleet and deploy nearly 2,400 new vehicles in Pennsylvania.

These inspiring changes are part of more than $40 billion in strategic investments under the 10-year Delivering for America plan aimed at transforming and modernizing the organization. Upgrades across Pennsylvania and the nation continue to put the Postal Service on a positive trajectory and create a high performing, financially stable organization capable of providing the American public with the world-class service they expect and deserve.
