Providence Processing Center Still Seeks Holiday Help

Veterans Day Open House Eases Seasonal Help Sign Up

Veterans Day Holiday Jobs Open House

PROVIDENCE, RI – November 7, 2019 – 6 PM – With a projected 800 million package deliveries expected between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day, the Postal Service’s Providence Main Post Office / Processing and Distribution Center continues its seasonal hiring for temporary, seasonal positions at the 24 Corliss Drive facility.

The mail processing center extends its holiday hiring with a special Veterans Day Holiday Jobs Open House on Veterans Day, November 11, from 9 am to 1 pm.  Postal officials will be on hand to answer questions and guide applicants through the job application process.

“You can sign up on Veterans Day and join our holiday team right away,” explained the Plant Manager for the Providence Mail Processing Center, Lawrence Crosby.  “This is strictly inside work, working evenings and nights, in the prime holiday processing season.  Someone looking for extra holiday cash, a short-term second job or students who need income for next semester are some of the people we hope to see on Veterans Day.”

Pay is $18 per hour.

During a work day, tasks for a postal mail processing seasonal employees – called a ‘casual’ -- may include loading and unloading trucks, sorting large packages or sacks by hand, moving equipment or sorting bundles or packages by ZIP Code.  Seasonal employees also receive paid training to learn functions of their work and how to use postal scanning equipment.

“Some of our seasonal workers return for the holiday period for years and some have found a pathway to permanent postal employment through the contacts they have made here as well,” added Crosby.

Work assignments include evenings and nights, six days a week, through January 3.

While other postal operations including delivery, collections of mail and retail services will be closed on the Monday holiday, postal officials encourage area residents who are interested in exploring a postal career to visit the Veterans Day Job Fair at the local facility on Monday. Veterans and college students are encouraged to apply.

All applicants must meet these minimum requirements:

  • 18 Years at time of appointment
  • US citizen or permanent resident
  • Ability to pass criminal background check, medical assessment and drug screen
  • Registered with Selective Service, if applicable

Those interested in applying who cannot attend the Open House are encouraged to use the Postal Service’s website at www.usps.com/careers. Use the keyword ‘casual’ and your state of choice.

Postings for all positions, including those in Connecticut Valley District sites like the Wallingford CT Processing Plant, the Springfield MA Network Distribution Center or the Providence RI Processing and Distribution Center are placed on this site and are updated regularly.  Candidates for employment are encouraged to monitor the site.
