Vehicle accident at Watertown, SD, Post Office

No injuries. Mail secured. Delivery Operations not effected

WATERTON — A customer’s vehicle drove through the front entrance to the Watertown Post Office inflicting moderate damage to the building.

No one was injured and all mail is secure.

P.O. Box customers can pick up their mail through the Bulk Mail Entry Unit (BMEU) entrance which is located at the rear of the building.

Currently there is limited retail functions available. Local officials are exploring other options to restore full retail service.

Delivery Operations not effected.

The outside mail drop will still be picked up. All incoming mail will be processed as usual.

Future decisions on retail operations and P.O. Box mail will be made after consulting with emergency and structural experts.

The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
