The flooding that has went through southeast South Dakota has delayed the delivery of mail and retail operations for Post Offices throughout the area. Until further notice, PO Box customers served by the Mount Vernon Post office can pick up their mail and obtain retail services at the Mitchell Post Office, 200 W 5th Ave, Mitchell, SD 57301. Post Office’s hours of operations are:

• Monday – Friday from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
• Saturday from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m.

The phone number at the Mitchell Post Office is 605-996-0957. Customers are reminded to bring photo identification when picking up their mail.

Delivery Operations For Mount Vernon will continue to areas where it is safe and possible to deliver. Any customers the carrier is unable to reach will be able to pick up their mail from the Mitchell Post Office.

• Chester SD 57016
• Madison SD 57042
• Montrose SD 57048
• Nunda SD 57050
• Olivet SD 57052
• Salem SD 57058
• Scotland SD 57058

We are working diligently to restore full operations of these eight Post Offices. We will update the public on any changes to service.

The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
