SMYRNA, TN — The Postal Service and Smyrna city officials will honor Letter Carrier Edgar Prosper at a ceremony on Friday, Mar. 2, 2019, at the Smyrna Post Office, 250 Mayfield Dr., 37167.  Prosper has earned the Postmaster General Hero Award for his actions aiding a customer in need.

Prosper was delivering mail on a July day when he noticed a lawn mower running in a customer’s yard.  Prosper spotted the customer collapsed nearby.  The customer was experiencing a diabetic seizure complicated by heat exposure.  Prosper alerted a neighbor, who called 911, and stayed with the customer until emergency responders arrived and took him to a hospital.

“Edgar is a Marine Corps veteran, an outstanding employee and a selfless person,” said local Postmaster Rodney Masengale.

The Smyrna mayor will present Prosper with a proclamation from the city at the event.

The Tennessee District serves ZIP Codes 370-374, 376-385 in Tennessee and 307 in northern Georgia.

The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses, and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
