Post Office Building to be Renamed

Dedication Ceremony planned

MEMPHIS, TN — Congressman Steve Cohen and the United States Postal Service will host a Dedication Ceremony to rename the Memphis Crosstown Post Office building in honor of Judge Russell B. Sugarmon.  The ceremony will take place on Friday, June 7, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. at the Crosstown Post Office, located at 1325 Autumn Ave., Memphis, TN 38104. 

Congressman Steve Cohen, postal officials, and members of the Sugarmon family will participate in the program, which will culminate with the unveiling of the dedication plaque.  The building renaming is by an Act of Congress, Public Law 115-291, December 6, 2018.  The original bill was introduced by Congressman Cohen.

Judge Russell B. Sugarmon was born in Memphis on May 11, 1929.  Sugarmon earned his law degree from Harvard University in 1953 and went on to distinguish himself as a lawyer, judge, statesman, as well as an active civic and community leader.  He passed away on Feb. 18, 2019.
