Manages USPS Retail & Delivery Services for Talbott
TALBOTT, TN — Thomas J. Hopkins has been promoted to Postmaster of the Talbott Post Office.
Hopkins follows a long tradition of postal service in the community, where the first postmaster – Nathan M. Mendenhall – was documented as being appointed in 1856. Mr. Hopkins is the 20th postmaster of Talbott.
Hopkins began his postal career in 2010 as a Rural Carrier Assistant in Bean Station, TN. He worked as a clerk from 2016 – 2018 before joining the management team as supervisor customer service in 2018. “Working as Supervisor, Customer Service taught me the skills and personal acumen to be the best Postmaster that I can be,” says Hopkins.
“I chose to work for the Postal Service for the great opportunities it offers to earn valuable experience. The Postal Service is a great place to work that provides generous pay and benefits, job security and career advancement opportunities,” he says.
As Postmaster, Hopkins is an important part of the Postal Service’s “Delivering for America” 10-year plan to achieve financial sustainability and service excellence. He oversees the management of the day-to-day workings of the Post Office which includes serving approximately 4,500 addresses, a retail unit, and 13 employees. He is the job fair events coordinator for a select group of post offices in the area to promote postal employment opportunities.
“I am helping to improve the atmosphere and culture of delivery by ensuring parcel visibility, scanning, and tracking,” said Hopkins. “I am also very involved in the growth of my local community - building relationships with builders and customers by assisting them in navigating new construction concerns.
Hopkins and his wife, Brandy, have a daughter, Paislee, who is 11 years old. He is an avid collector of original Civil War long arms and paraphernalia. He is also a college football fan, especially of the Tennessee Vols and his home state team, the North Carolina Tar Heels.
